Learning outcomes

1.

Explain the mechanisms of innate and adaptive immunity, and evaluate how reactogenicity, immunogenicity and immunological memory influence vaccine safety and efficacy.

2.

Compare vaccine platforms in terms of composition, reactogenicity, immunogenicity and memory generation.

3.

Perform current state of the art laboratory methods to measure vaccine-specific immune responses and apply these to actual blood samples from vaccinated individuals to interpret and evaluate vaccine efficacy.

4.

Map and critically evaluate each stage of the vaccine lifecycle using a recent vaccine case study.

5.

Design and communicate a theoretical vaccine concept by selecting appropriate antigen targets, adjuvants and delivery platform: outline a rationale for prelinical evaluation and implementation strategy based on current scientific and public health considerations.
